Q&A: Is this a good PC build?

MLM

Question by Spencer: Is this a good PC build?
Here’s the wish list I made on Newegg.com:

http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=6945869

This will be the first computer I’ve ever built, so I’d like some advice choosing which components to buy. I plan on using it mainly for gaming, but also for the usual internet browsing, email, word processing, etc. I already have a monitor, speakers, mouse, keyboard, and Windows Vista 64-bit ready to use.

Please let me know if I need another component, or if I should choose a different power supply, processor, or anything. Thanks for your help!
Thanks, I’ll go for a higher-wattage PSU.

I might go SLI in the future, but I’ll start off with one video card.
Thanks TC 422! I chose all of your suggested components.

All seems good to me.

I would consider just going to a 700W PSU just so you have no worries about overloading it.

Also if you want to overclock that processor (which is worth considering as you can easily get it to about 4ghz) you might want a good cooler for it.

Q&A: How much would it cost to build my own computer?

MLM

Question by Ben: How much would it cost to build my own computer?
Okay not planning on doing it anytime soon, but i love computers and want to learn how to build and repair them, and my parents think a good project for me is to build my own BASIC computer, basically just to surf the web. I would like someone who has a lot of experience in this to answer this question. So how much would it cost roughly to build a basic desktop computer, fairly fast, with about 1-2GB of RAM? (I do have limited knowledge in computers) I know next to nothing about video cards and most of the rest of Bank Routing Number First Bethany Bank And Trust the stuff haha but I really want to learn, so if somebody could possibly give me a rough estimate on how much it would cost and maybe even a COMPLETE list of supplies that I would need, along with a reliable website where I can purchase them? Email me at: benbojojo@yahoo.com if you want to give me more information, thanks.

Newegg.com is a great website to buy computer parts or whole computers they will have everything that you need.

Depending on how much you want to spend, building a computer can cost anywhere from about 0 to thousands of dollars. For a good, moderately fast desktop you should probably set aside at least 0. The more the better. Keep in mind that you should check the compatibility of everything to make sure that they will work well together. You should also check reviews to make sure that you are getting good items.

Major components that you need to buy:
RAM
Processor
MotherBoard
Hard Drive
Case
Power Supply
CD (optical) drives
Graphics Card (if there isn’t one built into the motherboard)
Operating System (Windows XP, Ubuntu, Windows 7, etc..)

Some things that you may also need to get:
Cables to connect components (these generally come with the drives)
Heat Sink for Processor (Almost always comes with one)
Thermal compound (usually provided but you will need it if you buy a used heat sink)

Send me an email from my profile if you need any help figuring out if things are compatible or with anything else.

Is it better to build your own computer or buy one?

MLM

Question by Damanomano: Is it better to build your own computer or buy one?
My mom wanted to buy a new computer since our old one broke. Since we had a old dell computer for a long time, she decided to go to the dell website to buy one. But since I heard somewhere that dell wasnt the best brand to use, I told her that maybe she should look on other sites. But for no reason at all, she refused to. I even looked up different places to buy, lists of the best brands to get, etc. But she still wouldnt use anything other than the dell website. I also read that most people preferred building their own computers to buying a premade one, and I also read that it costs less Bank Routing Number First National Bank than a premade one, and you can also choose your own components since a premade one might have subpar parts. I told that to mom, but she said she didnt want to wait for me to build it (I dont know why she cant wait, she only uses the computer to go to email and look at blogs. we also have a perfectly working macbook, more on that in a second.) She asked where I could get the parts, and I said I could get them off the internet. For some strange reason, she laughed at that (idk why, shes planning to get the dell computer off the INTERNET).

We also have a macbook at home thats perfectly functional (using macbook to write this), and were only buying the PC because some programs dont work on mac. For some strange reason, most of my family dont think of the macbook as a computer, and therefore prefer using the PC, treating it as a toy. My mom couldve easily looked up her blogs and stuff on the macbook, but i dont know why she doesnt. She also blames the newly-bought macbook for being slow, when shes using safari, but thats not the point im making. Anyway, I think its better to build the computer by myself, but I need an experts opinion on it first.

Best computer build with a $2,800 budget?

MLM

Question by MDTOHM: Best computer build with a ,800 budget?
I’m looking to go with the 9850 AMD phenom processor and the asus Crosshair 2 MOBO. I’d like 8GB of 800mHz or higher ram, and 2 250GB raptors for op system. I’d like to water cool and I was looking into getting the antec 1200 for a case. I need to know a list of the best parts for this system (512mb video card should be fine as well, probably the 9800) and exactly how to set up a raid 0 with the op system drives. I need the crosshair due to multiple raids, but if it makes sense I’ll buy a raid controller (I need 4 other drives raid 0 for HD video capturing). I also have no problem paying people to consult me on this issue, so if you’ve got excessive knowledge in this field email me and we can work something out. I know how to build computers, but I’ve never watercooled, so I also have no problem paying someone to build the computer as well.
I will be overclocking the 2.5 to at least 2.9-3.0 and since I will be both capturing and editing video thats 720P uncompressed Bank Routing Number Bank Of Elmwood I need as much ram as possible.

No! Not a SHOUTBOX, or CHATROOM! Like AIM messenger, Yahoo Messenger, or perhaps MSN!!! or Google chat!!

One would assume you don’t actually want to ‘build’ an instant messenger, and that you actually require some form Bank Routing Number Castle Rock Bank of embedded chat client for a web page?
