Dogs and babies… good idea or not?
MLMQuestion by Jennywren: Dogs and babies… good idea or not?
I am 6 months pregnant and i am thinking about getting a dog. I was brought up with dogs and have only ever been without them when i moved into my own house 18 months ago.
My partner works away Monday to Friday and i would love a dog for a little extra security. I asked him today, by email as i can’t phone him, if he would consider it. I listed the reasons as to why i wanted one and what type i’d get. I said it would be a small breed, one that doesn’t need loads of exercise so if i couldn’t walk it one day it wouldn’t be a problem. I’d get one that moults less so therefore less hairs around the baby, i’d get it soon so it can be trained before the baby comes in 3 months. Also i love the thought of my baby growing up with a dog as i did, some of my happiest memories are of my dogs and i wouldn’t want my baby to miss out on that experience. Anyway his answer was no. His reason being he thinks it would be unhygienic to have a dog around a baby. He phoned me and at the time i was about to leave the house so i didn’t go on about it as didn’t want to argue and get upset. But thinking about it, i was brought up with 2 or 3 dogs at a time and i have a great immune system and i have no allergies to animals. Surely having a dog around helps build up an immune system and helps guard your child against animal allergies? So i googled it and i’m right, it does. I wouldn’t let the dog lick the baby and i would never leave it unattended as you can never 100% trust any dog. Plus as i said i’d get one that moults less so where’s the problem. If he’d of come back with a proper excuse i’d of accepted it and moved on but to me this isn’t a good enough excuse, and it’s actually quite ignorant. Also he hasn’t given any thought to the added security i’d have with a dog around while he’s away 5 days a week. He said we can get one when the baby is a couple of years old. But by then we’ll, hopefully, be having another child as we both want 3 so he’ll just use the same excuse again, and then again when we have our third. So looking at it that way we won’t have a dog for about 8 – 10 years! There is no way i am spending that long without a dog, no way. I really miss not having one around, my house feels empty.
What are your opinions on this? I really don’t want to cause trouble over it but it’s a big thing to me. I want the added security and the companionship of a dog, and i want my children to be brought up with dogs, he was also brought up with a dog and he always tells me how much he loved his dog so can anyone understand where he’s coming from?
Would you go back to him and list all the health benefits of owning a dog as i’ve read, or just leave it and accept that a dog won’t be a part of my life for the next 10 years?!
Thanks x
Thanks for your answers. I was planning on getting a younger dog as i wouldn’t want an older dog for many obvious reasons. As for getting a dog when the baby is a little older that won’t happen because apparently ”it’s unhygienic” so therefore we wouldn’t be able to have any more children. So we’d have to wait until the oldest is a few years old, which is why i said 8 – 10 years down the line. 3 months is enough time to train a dog, i’ve always had dogs and they’ve been well trained within this time. By the time the baby is crawling/walking the dog will be a nice age and they can grow up together. And unless the dog is vicious towards the baby i wouldn’t consider getting rid of it. I don’t agree with people who have dogs and get rid of them just because they have a baby, it’s wrong, that dog is part of your family. I’ve wanted a dog for months but now is a good time as i’m finishing work in 2 weeks for mat leave, so will have time to train it and take it to lessons. Thanks again x

Answer by *You Just Can’t Cure a Moron
NO NO NO! I didn’t even read past the “6 months pregnant” part. Wait until your child is four or five, and THEN think about getting a dog. WIth a new baby, you will NOT have the time needed to properly train and socialize a puppy. And an older dog,… it’s just not safe. You don’t know the real history of any adult dog you adopt. Nor will you have the time or energy to train a shelter dog (very few shelter dogs have ANY sort of training. The irresponsible owners who dump them in shelters don’t bother with these dogs,…. they usually keep them until they grow out of the puppy stage and then realize they can’t control them anymore).
You don’t have to wait ten years until you can get a dog, just don’t do it while pregnant or with an infant/toddler. A small dog is easily hurt by toddlers, and a large dog can easily hurt a small child, even when everyone is being “careful.” Three months is NO WHERE near long enough to train a dog!
I wanted a dog ten years ago, too. But I had a baby. Then I had another one. I DID wait until my child was past preschool aged to get a dog. We don’t always get exactly what we want as soon as we want it. That’s life. The risks outweigh the benefits of dog ownership right now. Do the right thing, even if that means being patient.

will i ever get through this hard life situation?
MLMQuestion by ? medieval m?ster? rav?? ? †: will i ever get through this hard life situation?
please read all of this :
im feeling very depressed today, dwelling on all i have to get through, on all that i have been through..
ive had the internet since 2005, been a member of yahoo answers since 2006, ive met a lot of people through this site , compassionate answers to my questions, people connecting to me……adding them to my messenger list………..a lot of them its been very hard to maintain contact with them or keep up talking to them because i suffer low self esteem……relationship and intimacy issues…….getting to clingy…..expecting to much and them backing away from me…………..or me not returning their emails or messages because of a fear of rejection…..or i get too close then they reject me.
and a lot of people just dont reach out to me like they used to on here……a lot of the contacts i had on yahoo messenger have stopped instant messaging me for a long time now……..people i thought id built up friends with……confided in……had similar issues to…….people i met on yahoo answers who i thought , liked me..
dont here from them anymore….
im finding this really depressing as i thought id built up good friends, i started to like them, take them for granted……now they’re gone…..and i feel hopeless.
plus in general :
im 31 had a very disadvantaged hard life, missed out on a lot of life and living because of it…. like building friends, being employed etc.
struggle with ptsd, bpd, ocd, gad , serious illnesses that im struggling to get the right treatment program for….because of the crappy mental health services in my area..
ive lived on disability all my life, live in a one bedroomed apartment for 5 years , owning very few possessions mainly an old computer…..a few books a few scratched dvds….an old playstation 2 thats all.
i have a Bank Routing Number Signature Bank Of Arkansas mental hospital record going back 10 years ago….a prison record for an assault and carrying a knife 10 years ago.
cant easily make friends or build relationships because of mood swings, low self esteem, clingyness problems….intimacy problems and aggression problems…..get to attached, expect too much etc.
my ankle has just got out of a cast after it being operated on to fix ankle tendons that were torn.
im overweight, out of shape.
i feel truly like sht , my circumstances feel too difficult too change..
plus at age 31 ? starting from scratch virtually.
i feel times run out that ive left it too late……ive aged alot……out of shape…unfit….lonely…agoraphobic, no social support network, just my mother………..battling to get the right treatment from the mental health services.
all my friends on line seemed to have deserted me, i know their still around because i see their activity online.
i feel insecure and terrified about my future, ive been through so much hardship up to now in life so far.
im introverted, quiet , hand pick my friends , and just want a quiet little life, to find a partner, find happiness, a computer job working from home………….to live in a quiet coastal village……….i want my online friends back.
im so disadvantaged at 31, what am i gonna do ?
because of these difficult circumstances, some people i feel try to treat me as a ” charity case ” as if im desperate for acceptance or ” i need them ” or they misportray me to others -
all because of my unfortunate disadvantaged situation in life.
i feel angry towards them and have to demonstrate restraint, because i feel desperately enraged , and feel desperate urge to lose it . i resent their presence or unwanted point of view.
im choosy who my friends are and i hand pick my friends. my disadvantages in life, or my social difficulties or circumstances – makes no difference.

People need the Lord…
it is a song, but it is true. Find the Lord and some of the other problems will disappear.
Then just be the best “You” you can be. Be a good friend, and you will find some good friends. Just be careful. Is there anyone less fortunate than you that you could help? Be the friend to them that you wish someone would be to you…and do it “gratis”…free; expect nothing in return. Think of it as an experiment in cosmic “pay it forward” therapy.

Q&A: Security Guide (Updated)?
MLMQuestion by Glenn: Security Guide (Updated)?
Here is some few Hints and Tips to keep yourself safe on the Internet:
I can see many different types off suggestions to Anti Viruses on this site, therefor I decided to make this guide, I will list some few populare programs.
On internet today there are many different threats to consider, viruses can be hidden everywhere and can be transferred through email, USB, Software and internet sites, but the best protection you got against these is Common Sense, you should never open emails which are considered spam, enter sites which got a suspicious name unless your running sandbox mode.
Question: There are many different kind off protection you should Bank Routing Number Lewiston State Bank consider, but there are so many different kinds off software, so which is the best?
Answer: There is no “THE BEST” anti virus or anti malware, but some are better then others. It is dependent on how you use it and what you preffer
Payed Anti Virus:
- Kaspersky Anti Virus ( You can also buy this with Internet Security including different features)
- Comodo Anti Virus ( You can also buy this with Internet Security including different features)
- Eset Anti Virus «Nod32» ( You can also buy this with Internet Security which is called Eset Smart Security)
- Bit Defender
- Avast ( You can also buy this with Internet Security including different features, I think)
If you are unsure of whetever to download a software most off these will have a “sandbox” mode meaning it will download the software in a virtual envirnment meaning if the file is containing a malicious item it cant harm your PC
- Avira (Effective Anti Virus, pretty similar to Avast)
- Norton Anti Virus 2010 (Norton has earlier been a overpriced inefficent anti virus but with their new 2010 edition their really impressing me with good detection rate and should be consider a very good anti virus)
Free Anti Virus:
- Microsoft Security Essentials
- Avast Free
- Avira free
- Comodo Anti Virus
- Avg (Biggest Free Anti Virus, but it’s not one off my favorites and it is supposed to be highly inefficent)
There are many Anti Viruses on the market today, people are taking sides and people are saying their Anti Virus is the best, tests always vary and its up to what you preffer yourself, the one’s listed in this guide is amongst the most popular and all are efficent in their own way.
Anti Viruses today always have an in-built Anti Malware engine, many off these are efficent in one way or the other but your protection is way below what you would get if you had a 3rd party Anti Spyware/Malware program, You can run all these Programs listed below togheter, though my Personal Favorite is Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware.
Payed Anti Malware
- SuperAntiSpyware pro
- Malwarebytes pro
- SpyBot Search&Destroy
Free anti malware/spyware
- Malwarebytes
- Spybot Search&Destroy
- SuperantiSpyware
(Got more suggestions, post them, but suggest good software)
Additional protection:
You also got other types off protection, a very important part off your protection is your firewall, it will let you control what applications are allowed access to the internet and other actions.
Firewalls:
Windows Firewall (Effective, standard with Windows)
Comodo Firewall (Comodo.com)
Zone Alarm Firewall (Zone Alarm.com)
Links are located below:
Payed Anti Virus:
- Bitdefender.com
- Kaspersky.com
- Eset.com (Their Free antivirus is Nod32)
- Avast.com
- Avira.com
- Norton.com
- Comodo.com
(Very easy to navigate)
Free Anti Virus:
- microsoft.com/security_essentials/mark…
- Avast.com
- Avira.com
- Comodo.com
- Avg.com
Payed Anti Malware/Spyware
- Malwarebytes.com
- Superantispyware.com (Superadblocker.com too I think)
Free AntiMalware:
- Malwarebytes.com
- SuperAntiSpyware.com
Web Browser:
- FireFox
- Google Chrome
- Opera
- Comodo Dragon (Actually a very very secure browser but with a Plug-In FireFox is supposed to be the most secure browser
There is also one last thing to remmember, in order for your protection to be at it’s very peak I would reccomend you check for updates ones a week, as thousands off Viruses comes out every day, the need for a updated system is very high.
Personal Response: Most or all off these programs are great, though these will not give you a everlasting protection, thousands off viruses are found every day, keeping your programs up to date is vital. You will also need a small portion off common sense and doubt, if you by any means see a spam mail with a link to a site, I would not open it, I would rather leave it tf safe on the Internet:

Because SpyBot is paid you have both Pro and Free.
This is not just my tougths, its based on tests, and their very effective in General
, Comodo is not terrible yet it is highly effective though yes its Virus scan is really suckish xD.
Please don’t give me grammar responds, then your really fucked up, give me responds such as other “GOOD” programs or additional details to this
If you got any suggestions how to improve this, feel free to add my msn or email me at glenn_Vitti@hotmail.com, and we could perhaps discuss a more comprehensive guide?

ZoneAlarm is a good Firewall

This site is not a good site to take facts from seeming it does some weirdo tests and really gives false results. + Comodo gets top marks there -..-

Nice guide though it’s not a question. Anyways I wish more people would start using sandboxie! It’s one of the best little programs anyone can use for protection!
You should also mention TFC – Temp File Cleaner by OldTimer.
Also something about removing old Java and updating.

Q&A: LAPTOP EXPERTS: I am looking for a laptop that does the following, can you help me pick a brand/model?
MLMQuestion by JRSMARTS: LAPTOP EXPERTS: I am looking for a laptop that does the following, can you help me pick a brand/model?
First off, I don’t know a thing about laptops as far as megabites (sp?) and memory space, so all I can do is list the features I desperately want and hope someone out there knows of my perfect match.
Originally I wanted the Macbook White but they are a little too expensive on a student budget, so something similar in features and size/weight would be great.
The features I’m looking for are fairly simple. I basically want :
1. Built in webcam – With fairly good picture. Not sure how it works but if it’s anything like a digital camera I don’t want a dodgy webcam that makes me look like a big shadowy blob when I’m using skype. So a good quality webcam is key.
2. Lots of space for pictures and (especially) music. I don’t download movies ever, but I do tend to keep a lot of music on my laptop, in the thousands of songs range, followed closely by pictures.
And that’s really it as far as particular features.
Things I would use my laptop for include:
*Email
*Browsing the web (I browse the web a lot.)
*Skype (which is why I want a good quality webcam.)
*To use photoshop (which I will install myself.)
*Occassional Bank Routing Number Bank Of San Francisco word documents (essays.)
Things I like about the Macbook White basically boil down to the fact that the laptop itself is white and that it has the built in webcam. I also liked the way the desktop icons are displayed across the bottom however that isn’t something I necessarily look for in a laptop.
In a nut shell, I am looking for a personal/social use laptop with a built in (good quality) webcam and lots of space for music and pictures. I browse the web frequently and email frequently, occassionally use for student work (school laptops/computers are used for that instead) and should be not be heavy or bulky. White aesthetic would be great but not required.
Hope you can help.

all you need is a laptop with a good webcam and some 500 gigs of space. But, for that, find one. A Sony Vaio does that, no problem $$$$$$$$$$
