I need a new web host. I’m not interested in cheap, fly-by-night companies, but I need a solid hosting company that will provide great tech support for the variety of small websites I will be hosting with them. Any suggestions or advice is greatly appreciated!

I use and recommend HostGator. I’ve been with them for a while and never had any problems. From what I hear, their tech support is quick and helpful. They guarantee server uptime, Wire Transfer One United Bank and have great support for server side scripting. The plans arent too expensive, I’m paying 9/month for unlimited data/bandwidth/domains. Sure I could probably find it cheaper somewhere else, but like you I dont care for cheap fly by night companies.

Definitely stay away from hosts that offer “unlimited” space/bandwidth – those are scams and have bad support. Avoid places like hostgator, lunarpages, bluehost, hostmonster, etc. One exceptionally good host I’ve come across is Hostamina.com – they help you with absolutely anything because they actually care about their customers – and they also don’t oversell/overload servers.

Well to be completely honest with you. I would say if your looking for superior technical support stay away from these huge web hosting companies such as Go-daddy, Host-Gator, Lunar-pages, blue host, host-monster,iPower and the obvious yahoo and msn web hosting services.
The reason i say this is cause they might be reliable and a bang for the buck web hosting services BUT they have so many customers signing up every day ( not a bad thing) that they cant keep up. They don’t invest the same back in to their services, not in terms of servers and tools nor in terms of staff to provide technical support. I have tried go-daddy.com blue host.com and they provide pretty awful support.
If you are looking for support i would say the best i have found is http://www.thinkwebhost.tk , you can contact them on the phone email and they answer and solve your problems really fast. Although i live in Africa i have never come across a problem with their support ( considering the time difference). Also the site builder bundled is top notch; if you have no experience creating websites the templates are really good. One of the best i have seen all around the net.
